Q: I have incorporated Artichokes into my weight loss program and have enjoyed one a day throughout the month of July. I have lost 13 lbs. I am confused as to the calorie count of an average size Artichoke. The Ocean Mist package says it is 25 calories. Other info I see in calorie count books, says it is more like 50 to 75 calories. I am hoping that your info is correct as I think 25 calories will fit into my program great. What is actually the correct count?

In regard to the number of calories in an Artichoke, it is dependent on size. At this time, there is no "average size" for an Artichoke as most retailers carry a variety of sizes throughout the year, depending on the crop availability.

The Jumbo sized Artichoke has a serving size of 120 grams, which has 60 calories per serving. These are generally larger in size. On the other hand, the Medium sized Artichoke has a serving size of 56 grams, which has 25 calories per serving. These are a small to mid-sized Artichoke.
